Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Engineering, Management and Research (DYPIEMR) is very keen in inculcating the research culture among the faculty members. The code of ethics intends to promote and support good practice in research.

The Code of Ethics provides a framework of principles to assist the choices and decisions, values and interests which have to be made with regard to principles.

The code of ethics for research is based on four principles

  1. Integrity and Honesty
  2. Justice and Fairness
  3. Safety
  4. Respect for Human Rights and Dignity


1. Principle of Integrity and Honesty

A. Research competence

1. Refrain from undertaking research projects/grants requiring competencies that we do not have, unless being supervised by a more competent researcher/expert person

2. Refrain from plagiarism i.e. deliberate copying of ideas, text, data or other work without due permission and acknowledgement while publishing data in journals, conferences and filing patents

3. Avoid to claim a degree of research competency that we do not possess in proposals, job applications, or any other places


B. Research data and reports accuracy

1. Ensure the accuracy of all the gathered data that will be used for the analysis of the results

2. Ensure that only the correct data and research results shall be reported in journals and conferences

3. Avoid exaggerated claims that are not practical and can’t be supported by the analyzed results


C. Freedom and responsibility during conduct and presentation of research

1. Keep a detailed record of undertaken research

2. Maintain transparency while disbursing the resources for the research

3. Refrain from presenting or publishing any data that is of conflict or that is to be kept confidential


2. The Principle of Justice and Fairness

A. Extension of due regard towards fellow faculty members and students

1. Respect the fellow research participants and the students and assist them

2. Respect the confidentiality rights of our colleagues and students whose technical information we review for publication and presentation

3. Handle with care the instruments/equipments and the other lab resources


B. Credit of others’ contribution and resources

1. Acknowledge the contribution of others in one’s research

2. Utilize the resources/equipments in accordance with the conditions set by the benefactor


C. Intellectual property rights (i.e., copyright, patents)

1. Discuss among the inventors, Institute and funding sources for the fair distribution of legal ownership of the research and its products.


3. The Principle of Safety

A. Safe and responsible conduct of research

1. Maintain the best safety practices in all research activities

2. Refrain from violating any regulations governing research

3. Ensure the proper disposal of laboratory waste and make sure that our research activities do not degrade the environment

4. Provide information about any hazard we observe that threatens the human life and environmental safety to the participants and the higher authorities


4. The Principle of Respect for Human Rights and Dignity

A. Equal treatment and respect for researchers

1. Respect cultural and individual differences among researchers based on age, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, language, or socio-economic status

B. Guarding participants’ confidentiality and autonomy rights

1. Protect the participants’ right of privacy and confidentiality

2. Ensure that the provided consent is obtained from all the participants working in the center.

3. Maintain the autonomy of participants, especially students, by refraining from forcing them to participate the research activity
